EDGE: BROODING

Edge

Ink, acrylic marker and watercolor on 11" x 15" watercolor paper

Artwork by Rob Schamberger, painted in 2021

When Edge brought back the classic Brood entrance at SummerSlam 2021 I immediately said, "Welp, I'll be painting that!" And here we are. I started watching wrestling as a young man around when the Brood was originally going and LOVED the entrance. The utterly awesome music, coming up through the circle of fire, the hints of vampirism, it was everything I was into at that time.

I'm not really big on nostalgia myself, but that was definitely a moment I let in when Edge did it again ahead of his match, especially with WWE's modern production values taking it to a whole other level.

This was made mostly with watercolors, building up layers to tell the story of Edge emerging from the fire and out of the smoke, with a plume of said smoke forming around his head as it wafts by. Normally I have a hard demarcation between the figure and the background, but this time around it was all of a piece and it came down to getting the slightest shadows and variations in color right to make it read correctly to the viewer's eyes. A little bit of black ink was used for the darkest shadows in what background there is, and then some white acrylic for the highlights to really make it all pop!
