Ink, Watercolor, Spray, and Acrylic on 19" x 24" bristol board
Artwork by Rob Schamberger, made in 2021
This is the best thing I've ever made. This mosaic painting of Ric Flair is the sum of my abilities at this moment. From technique to storytelling to composition, it's the very best work of art that I'm capable of making right now.
There's atmospheric panels in it, with a peacock to symbolize Ric's many robes and how he looks in them. There's limousine ridin' and jet flyin'. There's silhouettes of a couple lovely ladies, and there's a closeup of Ben Franklin from a hundred dollar bill. Also a closeup on the back of one of his robes.
Then there's panels showing Ric's career from the very beginning after training with Verne Gagne, to his prime in the purple robe, to his final match at WrestleMania 24 and even him now as the elder statesman of professional wrestling.
Finally, I have the big portrait of his face in the middle portrayed in watercolor, acrylic and wash, and acrylic with hatching depending on where it falls within the borders.
Ric Flair is regarded as the greatest to ever do it and I took this as a responsibility on my part to portray him in the greatest way possible.
