Mankind: This Man, This Monster Original Painting

Acrylic on 15" x 20" bristol board
For Halloween I thought it’d be fun to do an acrylic painting of Mankind, notably the early terrifying version of Mick Foley’s infamous alter ego. Taking inspiration from the classic Famous Monsters artist Basil Gogos to create this love letter and homage to his work, while putting Mankind firmly among the monstrous pantheon of Dracula, Frankenstein and the Wolfman.
It’s a take on Mankind that I hadn’t really thought of doing, but when the idea hit me it seemed like such a natural fit. It’s fascinating how such a colorful palette can still create such a chilling visual, but as the Mankind persona evolved that kind of speaks true to him, doesn’t it?
