This Bianca Belair painting is one of those that is the sum of the work I've done, every painting, up to now. Going into it, I knew that I wanted to use her whip-like long braid as a design element, but beyond that I wasn't sure. At first I was leaning towards an action shot of her, but felt like that'd be too much with the strong design, especially when I settled on doing the spiral.

I added in the other design elements with gold marker after applying the ink, feeling like the black ink wouldn't read easily against the dark blue background and with that it all came together. Lots of little things I've done in other paintings, but they all informed me and I was able to put them together here for what I feel came together as a strong composition.
